School, Shopping, and My Big Bieber Embarrassment

7 Apr

I just began my last semester at school yesterday, and while I wish the break had been longer, I must say that it’s good to be back. Unfortunately, on the break, I managed to lose my wallet. 😦 So I have been having all sorts of fun canceling and replacing cards and memberships etc. over the past few days. It has been a BLAST. I’m happy to say now, though, that I am back on track and ready to start the new semester off running! I had a moment of weakness the night of the lost wallet… Pumpkin pie, ice cream, and a feeling sorry for myself party ensued. Anyways, such is life, and ON WITH THE SHOW. Like I was saying, I am extremely excited for my last semester at Blanche Macdonald! The final courses in my Fashion Merchandising program that I am starting this week include:

——————————————————————————————–

– Fashion Illustration

– Fashion Awareness I (Basically a History of Fashion course looking at dress of specific eras/decades)

– Marketing Essentials

– Visual Merchandising

– Textiles and Fabrics

I must say that I am most looking forward to Awareness, but it should be an interesting semester overall – definitely a big change in gears from last semester!

———————————————————————————————————————–

Next week should be an eventful one. Vancouver Fashion Week runs from the 12th to the 17th, where I will be volunteering with the Front of House crew. Should be fun! Hope to see you all there! 🙂 More information at their website linked to above.

———————————————————————————————————————–

I also wanted to share some new additions to my own wardrobe that I am very excited about.

Brogue Shoes // Tiger of Sweden

Zipper-Bottom Textured Denim // JNBY

———————————————————————————————————————–

The textured denim from JNBY is from their Fall collection (70% off!), so I couldn’t say no… plus, they are sort of akin to those Nicholas K ones I’ve been coveting, no? 🙂 AND before you all think I’ve gone crazy with the Tiger of Sweden – I loved the detailing and the light brown coloring on the shoes for Spring, they just HAPPENED to be Tiger of Sweden shoes… again. I’m not obsessed, I swear. I just wanted to start the semester off on the right foot. ha…ha… That joke was so hilarious, I should share with you an embarrassing story about my stand-up comedy experience last night at Darby’s on West 4th Ave…

————————————————————————————————————————

We went down to Darby’s, an independent pub in Kits, to support our hilarious friend Vanessa, who got the crowd laughing after some Vancouver-relevant yoga jokes. It was great! I was laughing, having a great time, trying to be generally supportive of all of the comics on stage… and then… the dreaded comparison that I experience almost every time I set foot into a bar and there are drunks afoot, came. One of the comics announced to the bar that Justin Bieber was here to enjoy the comedy show and shamelessly asked me to come up onto the stage for “the other comics to see”… So, I was marked. Great. Hilarious. The comic was literally letting the other comics know that I was there, just in case they needed a target to bail themselves out. I gritted my teeth, feigned laughter, and smiled politely as about 3 other comics – Sad. I know – sent Bieber jabs my way throughout the night when it seemed that their act wasn’t going quite as well as planned or their material had dried up. Yup. Mortifying.

Uhh... Maybe if I plucked my eyebrows, Usher gave me dance lessons, and I went back in time about 10 years?

Oh well, I’ve always said I love to support local artists, so I’m glad that I could be there to pitch in and do my part. 😉 It was a fun night and I definitely recommend it for a fun Tuesday evening. 🙂 (Don’t sit near the front if you are a young-ish caucasian male with bangs of any sort. You’ve been warned.) Darby’s Pub

P.S. Try the Phillip’s Chocolate Porter there. It is beer… that tastes like… chocolate. What a heavenly combo.

What about you?  Any new additions to your wardrobes? Are you planning on attending Vancouver Fashion Week? Are you ever heckled by drunk middle-aged men comparing you to teenybopper celebrities? 😦  Sigh.

Until next time my faithful intrepids,

xx Scott
